Crime Prevention Advice: Allotment Burglaries |
||
|
We’ve received reports of burglaries and thefts from local allotments. Tools, equipment, and stored items are often targeted—especially in quieter areas.
Please take a few simple steps to protect your plot:
Secure Your Shed & Property - Use a strong, good-quality padlock and consider a hasp and staple upgrade - Reinforce doors and hinges where possible - Avoid leaving valuables in plain sight
Mark & Record Your Tools - Property mark tools with your postcode and plot number - Take photos and keep a record of serial numbers - Consider forensic marking products
Increase Visibility - Keep hedges and growth trimmed to improve natural surveillance - Work together with neighbouring plot holders—look out for each other - Consider Extra Security - Install solar motion lights - Use shed alarms or CCTV where appropriate
Routine Checks -Visit your allotment regularly, especially during quieter periods Report any suspicious activity immediately Report It - If you witness a crime in progress, call 999 - To report non-emergency incidents, call 101 or report online
Working together can make a real difference in reducing crime and protecting our allotment spaces. | ||
