|
A thief who targeted parked cars in Huddersfield communities is behind bars within just days of his offences. Officers from your Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team are urging you to keep reporting vehicle crime following the conviction of Amgad Abouelazm, aged 32, at Leeds Magistrates Court on Monday 9 March. The 32-year-old, of Wakefield Road, Huddersfield, was jailed for 12 weeks after admitting three offences of interfering with a motor vehicle and an offence of stealing from a car. The offences took place on March 6 and 7 in the Dalton and Moldgreen areas and were investigated by NPT officers after residents reported a man trying car door handles. Enquiries by officers led to Abouelazm being identified, arrested and swiftly charged and dealt with. Inspector Nicholas Kitson of the Huddersfield NPT, said: “Reports from within communities really are important in helping us identify crime trends and quickly deploy officers where they are needed. “Resident's reports of a man trying car door handles in the affected areas made it apparent we had a repeat offender operating, and as a result our officers were able to track down and arrest him. “He was remanded then very swiftly dealt with by the courts and is now off our streets. “Anyone who has intelligence about ongoing criminal activity in Huddersfield is asked to contact us on 101 or online at https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat “Information can always also be given anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.” | ||
