Bogus workman steals handbag from elderly lady in New Sharlston.

Good morning

An elderly lady, who lives on her own in New Sharlston, was the victim of a bogus workman on Thursday 09 January at 3pm.

The suspect knocked on the door and offered to do some painting and decorating. He entered the property and followed the victim into the kitchen to discuss the job. On leaving the kitchen the suspect sighted the victims handbag on the table, grabbed it and ran out of the property.  The bag contained a purse with £250 cash.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5ft 10ins, large build, clean shaven dark hair, maybe in his 50’s, wearing a black sweatshirt and dark blue jeans.

Please remember – You don’t have to let anyone into your home. Always check the ID of the person at the door and don't be afraid to make checks via a phone call with the company/organisation that the doorstep caller is claiming to be from.

Don’t do business on the doorstep. Use a recommended, trusted trader.

Please remind relatives/neighbours/friends to be aware of this type of scam as bogus workmen prey on the vulnerable and try to obtain cash through deception.
