Information sought after fires started

On Thursday 12th September, PC Gregory and PC Picken from Pontefract and Knottingley NPT discovered a small fire which had been set on the land at the end of Windermere Drive, Knottingley.

The fire was set to destroy large amounts of rubbish, which included household waste, garden waste, a bathroom set and kitchen appliances which had been tipped illegally. This is the second fire in the last 3 weeks where the fire service has been required to attend to extinguish the fire to prevent it spreading to the nearby housing estate. There is evidence of further fires being set also.

Residents are reminded that it is a criminal offence to fly tip waste and also to set fires especially where there is a chance of it spreading to nearby homes. Residents are also reminded to ensure that any waste carriers used are fully licenced.

Officers will continue to patrol this area in an attempt to prevent further incident.
