Police 'Paws' Patrol Demonstrate Their Skills At St Nicholas Primary School In Gipton, Leeds

On the 11th of June 2024, Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Crawford attended St Nicholas Primary School in Gipton alongside West Yorkshire Police Dogs Section and the Roads Policing Unit, to deliver educational and interactive sessions, regarding the roles and responsibilities of the dedicated operational units and how they keep communities safe.

Pupils from year groups 1, 2, 5 and 6 were able to meet with the Police Dogs – PD Roost, PD Zero and PD Macy. They watched training exercises, with PD Roost searching for ‘evidence’ in the playground and PD Zero and Macy in action, demonstrating how they detain “suspects”.

A Roads Policing Unit officer also attended on a motorbike, who explained their role and how they keep people safe on the roads.

The event was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by pupils, who learned about various roles in the police and how the police dogs support officers in their work.

Leeds East Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to thank St Nicholas Catholic Primary School, for welcoming us in at the school, the pupils for their fantastic behaviour and wonderful questions, the West Yorkshire Police Operational Support Units, and our wonderful four-legged colleagues PD Roost, Zero and Macy for displaying their impeccable talents.
