Crime Prevention - Burglary

There has been an increase in residential burglaries in your area recently.

Think about your own home. Is it secure?

Follow our check list to improve your home security:

  • Insecure doors and windows, it's easy to forget to lock up when you're in a rush
  • Protect your valuables inside your home by keeping them out of sight
  • Check your doors and windows meet minimum security standards of PAS 24
  • You can grow your own security with defensive planting such as hardy bushes and shrubs
  • Internal lights and external dusk till dawn lighting can reduce the risk of being being burgled
  • If you are making plans to travel, and your property is going to be unoccupied for some time then please review your security. Is it obvious that there is nobody at home?

  • Use a “fake TV” or a "Dummy TV Simulator" This is a device that emits light like a television and has a built in timer which is safe to leave plugged in. These are available to buy online for approx £10.
  • Ask a neighbour to park their vehicle on your drive whilst you are away.
  • Secure garden gates and restrict access to the rear of your property.
  • If you are considering CCTV look at the video doorbells which are shown to deter offenders and provide excellent video images.
  • Don't advertise on Social Media that you are going away, or when you are away. Tell everyone about your travels when you get back.
